The Dada Letter

A word about the Dada Letter:

During his stay in Paris in the late 1940's, Lawrence Ferlighetti had the distinct pleasure of meeting many of the key players in the Dada and Surrealism movements. There was a recurring story that emerged from those long nights in Parisian cafes and bistros regarding the origins of the term Dada. Mr. Ferlinghetti has written this account on City Lights letterhead, sealed it in an envelope, and put together a small commemorative package celebrating the occasion of the Dada World Fair and the 100th anniversary of Dada. The package will include The Dada Letter, Dada World Fair commemorative postcards, a program and a poster from the fair, a copy of the book Lost Profiles: A memoir of Cubism, Dada, and Surrealism, by Philipp Soupault (produced by City Lights Publishing on the occasion of the Dada World Fair), and photographs of Lawrence Ferlingetti wearing his Dada mask. This complete package is what is being auctioned off.

The auction will take place on Saturday, November 12, 2016, 3:00 p.m. at the Weinstein Gallery, 444 Clementina Street, San Francisco, 94103, on the occasion of the event Dada's Tangled Roots, a reading of texts influential and an inspiration to the Dada movement.  The auction shall begin during the event's intermission. Bidding begins at $100.

All proceeds from this auction shall go to Glide Memorial Church.
